Working with Aperture Academy’s professional portrait instructor Alicia Telfer, will bring her special blend of energy and knowledge while she works with you in the field and at the computer to help take your portrait portfolio to the next level! This upper level workshop is limited to only six participants, so you’ll get plenty of 1-1 instruction!

This workshop is perfect for those who have taken our Natural Light Photography Workshop or those who have a grasp for the basics and are ready to take the next step in improving their portrait photography skills. Topics covered in this workshop are:

• Image concept preparation
• Knowing the best poses for your subject
• Photoshop portrait training
• Production tools and tips
• Refining your portfolio
• Communicating with your subject
• Manipulate natural light to create beautiful portraits

While in the field, our small group of participants will have access to professional models! These models will be working with professional hair and make-up artists to give you numerous opportunities to capture the perfect portrait. Alicia will cover posing and scene set up as well as all the little tips and tricks to help bring out the BEST in your subjects! Still having trouble with lighting in your portrait work? We will cover both natural and artificial light, how to properly us reflectors, diffusing ambient light. Our introductory natural-light portrait class gives students the basics of lighting. This course takes it a step up! (Note: Aperture Academy Natural Light Course or previous portrait experience is required to take the advanced class)

After a fun filled morning working with the models and capturing great images on the camera, our intimate group of 6 photographers will meet inside the spacious Aperture Academy gallery where you will take those photos to the next level! Alicia will guide you through all the steps of a successful portrait photographer. Topics covered will include; image selection, portrait specific post processing techniques, and final print file preparation.

Using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, Alicia will help you learn how to enhance and edit your portraits to make them stand above! You will leave not only with a greater knowledge of the processing side of portrait photography but also several print-ready files ready to add to your portfolio!

This class is perfect for those who are looking to improve their lighting skills & subject interaction, refine their workflow & portrait production as well as build their portfolios.
