Yosemite "After Dark" Spring Night Photography Workshop
Yosemite National Park is arguably the most iconic and easily recognizable parks in the United States; towering cliffs of marbled granite and massive waterfalls plunging over them. It’s a stunningly beautiful testimony to the power of nature and time. Ansel Adams Photographed Yosemite, and is best known for his magnificent captures of this California treasure. Technology has progressed since Ansel’s days, and with the new string of cameras we’re able to see and photograph Yosemite in ways that were previously nearly impossible.
Come explore Yosemite...AFTER DARK!
After meeting your professional instructors on Saturday afternoon they will drive you into the park for a chance to photograph one of the spectacular and iconic grand vista points. Sunset is only a warm-up however, the real magic happens when the mother-nature turns off the lights. Night landscape photography for many can be a difficult and challenging. For others going out at night alone can be intimidating and scary. We’re here to help with both! Come join the Aperture Academy and a fun group of photography enthusiasts for a night adventure!
Our instructors will be on hand to help you with all the settings and technical knowledge needed to capture stunning night imagery. Want to know how to light paint? Our instructors will bring along the materials to help create interesting and unique images painting with light!
As an added bonus, May also brings about a natural phenomenon called a ‘Moonbow’ at Yosemite Falls. Light from the moon creates a rainbow in the mist of this powerful and massive waterfall. If the clouds stay clear, and the moon is able to hit the falls, our instructors will have you in the right place to capture this stunning occurrence for yourself!
The Moonbow is only one of numerous possibilities to capture stunning and imaginative night images in this grand and inspiring landscape. You’ll ride in style all night long as our team of professional instructors guides you in and around Yosemite National Park and puts you in the right place at the right time to capture the best Yosemite offers.
Spring brings on the water, and no time is better to see those massive waterfalls flowing at their best! The next day we’ll explore the park looking for spring flowers, raging waterfalls, and iconic granite cliffs before settling in at another of the parks’ iconic vantage points to photograph a final sunset before our time together draws to a close.
Stars! Moonbows! Raging Waterfalls! YOSEMITE!
We hope you'll join us for this exclusive workshop offering at California's premier National Park.

What to Bring
:: What should I expect? ::
All workshops are designed to help you learn how to take better photographs and offer a complete immersion into digital landscape and/or wildlife photography. You will learn important photography techniques such as how to properly expose a composition, when to use a filter for best effect, and how to understand and adjust camera settings for optimum results.
:: Why only Digital? ::
Digital photography offers unique opportunities for in-field photography workshops. By reviewing captured images as soon as they happen, we can examine exposure, composition and histograms, and instantly learn what works--and what doesn't.
:: What should I bring? What is required? ::
:: What kind, and how much, equipment should I bring? ::
Bring it all if you can! You never know what you might see. On many workshops we focus on landscape photos, but you never know when wildlife might enter the scene and provide the perfect opportunity to photograph them in their natural habitat. It's always better to go into the field with too much gear, rather than miss an opportunity because of not enough equipment.
:: Is transportation provided? ::
Each student is responsible for their own transportation to and from the workshop meeting location. Once on location, we will provide transportation for all enrolled students over the course of the scheduled workshop.
:: Can a non-photographer friend or spouse attend the workshop? ::
Non-photographer friends and/or spouses are welcome to attend, but will be subject to the full tuition fee based due to transportation availability.
:: Does weather ever alter or cancel events? ::
Only if conditions pose a safety risk. Often, poor weather can make for dramatic photographic opportunities, so if rain is forecasted, pack a light jacket or rain poncho and bring something to keep your camera dry (a hotel shower cap is ideal).
:: What happens if I have to cancel? ::
Because of the limited number of workshops and availability of one-on-one instruction sessions, once we schedule a spot, it won't be available for anyone else, therefore we can not offer a refund unless the cancellation is 90 days before the workshop date. This policy is necessary to assure us that those who sign up are serious about the adventure and will not back out, ruining the opportunity for someone else.
:: Be prepared to take better photographs! ::
These workshops will help you develop skills, learn techniques and get to know your camera and equipment like never before. As a bonus, you will have a fun time and build friendships while learning to improve your photography technically. The result? You'll be capable of producing photographs as beautiful as any professional!
