McWay Falls, named after an 1870s homesteader (Julia Pfeiffer Burns), is known for its extraordinary 80-foot waterfall. At high tide, it spills directly into the surf below, and at low tide, the water flows through McWay Creek to blend unnoticed to the vast Pacific Ocean.

In this photograph, the warm, golden sunset illuminates the cove with a spectacular glow, tinting the rocks and drawing the turquoise tones from the surf.
